The ban on volunteer veterinairans from abroad offering their professional services to the animals of Greece free of charge has officially come to an end! The State Legal Council ruled that volunteering is not an economic activity and requiring and that knowledge of the Greek language was not necessary for carrying out these procedures, according to the legal opinion No. 63/2013.
Animal welfare groups and activists both within Greece and overseas have been fighting against this ban for years and this victory has demolisched the barriers preventing vet teams from overseas, offering valuable practical and economical aid. This is great news for the stray animals, for castration projects to lower the amount of stray dogs and cats can be supported from volunteers from abroad. The castration projects diminishes the most against the endless suffering of strays, for less stays means less suffering – that simple it is!
